Peatland protection in Osnabrück

Moor-Aktion bei Osnabrück

Last Saturday, the Venner Moor in the Osnabrücker Land region was transformed into a lively center of nature conservation. In a joint campaign, 15 volunteers from the NOZ/mh:n MEDIEN media group and the Mission to Marsh initiative rolled up their sleeves to help preserve the unique peatland landscape. Under the expert guidance of the 2nd chairman of NABU Osnabrück, invasive shrubs and small trees that threaten the sensitive ecosystem were removed.

Equipped with rubber boots and tools, the aim was to remove the cuddles from the renaturalized peatland and thus contribute to its restoration. “We also want to do something good for the region outside of the usual strategic work in the company and work together ,” explains Neele Sommer, Sustainability Officer and Project Manager Corporate Communications at the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung.

Activities like these not only strengthen team spirit, but also show what can be achieved together in a very short space of time.

Ann Christin Kornelsen, Managing Director of Mission to Marsh, is overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support of the media group: “It’s fantastic to see our partners discover their passion for the wetlands and join us in working towards a sustainable future.”

The day was all about practical nature conservation, with every action contributing to the restoration of the natural wetland biotope. “This was real teamwork for the environment and we are proud of what we have achieved,” said a volunteer from the campaign.

In view of the success of this event, NOZ/mh:n MEDIEN and Mission to Marsh are already planning further days of action to further promote wetland protection and raise awareness of the importance of these habitats.
